How to Harvest Acai Berry

It grows on something called the acai palm, which is a palm tree which contains the berries. Because the acai berry can only be found at the top of the tree, you either cut down the palm tree in order to harvest, or climb up and gather the berries. If you were to cut down the tree, it could never bear fruits again, therefore you must use a ladder or harness and make your way up the acai palm tree.

Typically the harvesters use baskets to pick the nutritious and super healthy acai beries, and they pick the berry one by one, placing them in handwoven baskets. You need to be careful at this stage not to squish the berry, this will come later. Once all the acai berries have been plucked from the tree, its time to move onto the next stage.

Presevering the Acai Berry

If you waited over 24 hours with all the berries sitting in their baskets, they would start going bad. Health experts often wonder about this, because most fruit does not spoil so fast. Its interesting how something with so much nutrition and beneficial properties has such a short life once harvested. If you ever get a chance to eat the berries raw, consider yourself lucky, or brazillian. Otherwise you need to process them into powder form or freeze dry the acai berry. Once this is completed, they end up in many different products and ready for health food stores.
